Integrating Manual Muscle Testing with Acupuncture Diagnosis and Treatment

Weekend Extra Sessions (two-part series):

Each weekend session will offer attendees an opportunity to learn applied kinesiology and how to integrate this osteopathic technique into an acupuncture treatment. Dr. Jay Sandweiss is an osteopathic physician with over 30 years experience integrating acupuncture and osteopathic treatment strategies. Applied kinesiology is method of precise muscle testing to determine the pattern of neuromuscular inhibition present in persistent musculoskeletal and chronic pain conditions. Students will learn to identify inhibited muscles and to correlate this muscle dysfunction with a particular acupuncture meridian and treatment approach.

These workshops will be offered on Saturday evenings throughout the course. They are appropriate for both current students and graduates of the course (DO’s and M.D.’s) looking to integrate basic osteopathic treatments into their acupuncture approach. Each weekend session will provide valuable examination tools and pragmatic treatment techniques for specific body regions.

Osteopathic Workshop 1: Integration of Upper Extremity Muscle Testing into Acupuncture Diagnosis and Treatment – Introduction to manual muscle testing for the upper extremity region and its associated acupuncture channels.

Battlefield Acupuncture

Learn this effective method to treat pain using a set of five ear points. Battlefield acupuncture (BFA) was developed by Richard Niemtzow, M.D., PhD, MPH, Colonel (ret), USAF for application in the front line to treat battlefield related injuries without medication. BFA is now considered a basic tool that all Air Force physicians learn to provide a quick and effective pain management alternative to opioids. Xiangrong Shao, M.D. is a BFA expert and a graduate of our course. The workshop will be offered as a pre-symposium session.  It is appropriate for both current students and graduates of the course looking to advance their skill sets in acupuncture for pain management.

Fascial Node Trigger Point Needling

Dr. Audette will develop the theory behind an acupuncture tensegrity approach to dry needling for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. This approach will be applied to a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions including those of the neck, shoulder, back, hips, and pelvic girdle. Neurological conditions such as vertigo and headache will also be covered. The hands-on practicums will develop practical skills with dry needling techniques.
 

Facial Diagnosis

Face reading and diagnosis is an ancient part of Chinese Medicine used as a diagnostic tool similar to listening to the pulse. This workshop in facial diagnosis will help students understand the most common face reading traits and their clinical implications. At the conclusion of the workshop, students will be able to diagnose and treat addiction, depression, adrenal exhaustion, self-criticism, sorrow, fear, grief, repressed and overactive anger, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Learn Acupuncture, dietary and lifestyle methods for facial rejuvenation. Techniques are closely linked to the Chinese view of the 5 elements and the effects of certain constitutional patterns on the health of the skin of your patient’s face. 
 

 

Advanced Cupping

 This skill advancement workshop consists of detailed instructions on modern cupping techniques using plastic cups, Dongui fire cups, and modified fire glass cups to treat medical conditions of the head and neck, torso, and upper and lower extremities.
